中國的服裝模特和設(shè)計師要走向國際化，必須在提高個人素質(zhì)和職業(yè)涵養(yǎng)方面下工夫，要培養(yǎng)、策劃、包裝、推廣走向世界的服裝模特和設(shè)計師。為了參加國際性的服裝模特和設(shè)計大賽，有效地展現(xiàn)東方的風采和學習西方的經(jīng)驗，我們的服裝模特和設(shè)計師必須掌握一定程度的英語技能。
《實用服裝表演與設(shè)計英語》教材就是為了適應(yīng)我國服裝模特業(yè)和服裝設(shè)計業(yè)走向世界的要求而編寫的。它強調(diào)英語教學的實用性，特別突出和加強學生的交流能力的訓練，是一本理念創(chuàng)新、內(nèi)容實用、具時代特色的全新教材。
本教材注意打好語言基礎(chǔ)，更側(cè)重培養(yǎng)實際應(yīng)用能力，特別是使用英語進行涉外交際的能力。在培養(yǎng)閱讀能力的同時，加強說、寫、譯等語言技能的綜合訓練，尤其注重口頭和書面實用表達能力的訓練與培養(yǎng)。加之本書的主編之一白靜老師長期從事北京服裝學院的服裝表演專業(yè)和設(shè)計專業(yè)學生的英語教學，比較了解學生的真實水平與需求，而且在編寫過程中已將部分內(nèi)容先期試用于日常英語教學，并不斷地進行了改進與完善。本教材已被北京服裝學院列入十一五院級教材規(guī)劃，該書的編寫工作也得到了院方的重視與支持。
