21世紀(jì)到來(lái)，科學(xué)技術(shù)日新月異，信息知識(shí)瞬息萬(wàn)變。近幾年來(lái)，詞匯學(xué)領(lǐng)域出現(xiàn)了不少新的研究成果。為了緊跟時(shí)代步伐，與時(shí)俱進(jìn)，筆者感到有必要對(duì)《教程》進(jìn)行修訂。本書把原第三章的某些內(nèi)容獨(dú)立成章，進(jìn)行了重寫。第二章新增兩節(jié)，闡述當(dāng)代英語(yǔ)的特征和發(fā)展趨勢(shì)。對(duì)辭書部分進(jìn)行了較大的改動(dòng)，不僅增加了20世紀(jì)90年代未期和21世紀(jì)前三年出現(xiàn)的新辭書，還專辟一節(jié)詳盡地介紹四部?jī)?yōu)秀詞典，大增加了該書的時(shí)效性和實(shí)用價(jià)值。
