本書(shū)多年從事英語(yǔ)文學(xué)教學(xué)與學(xué)習(xí)的心得體會(huì)；目的在于，在對(duì)西方批評(píng)理論的分析與比較的基礎(chǔ)上，通過(guò)具體作品的分析，使讀者能增加對(duì)文學(xué)作品的敏感度，不再對(duì)文學(xué)作品像霧里看花般不知所云。但本書(shū)也并不僅僅是重復(fù)某一流派的觀點(diǎn)，或是用一種理論標(biāo)準(zhǔn)去衡量文學(xué)作品是否達(dá)到要求。希望讀者朋友在看過(guò)本書(shū)后，能盡量學(xué)習(xí)各家觀點(diǎn)，借他山之石，借鑒前人成果，在此基礎(chǔ)上，更接近作者，形成自己對(duì)文學(xué)作品更全面、更客觀的分析與評(píng)論。本書(shū)分三大部分：對(duì)自古希臘以來(lái)的西方文學(xué)批評(píng)傳統(tǒng)，尤其是20世紀(jì)以來(lái)一些具有影響的批評(píng)流派進(jìn)行了分析與回顧；分別從傳統(tǒng)和現(xiàn)代兩個(gè)角度圍繞馬韋爾的詩(shī)歌《至羞澀情人》和莎士比亞的戲劇《哈姆雷特》進(jìn)行了分析，讓學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)如何分析文學(xué)；在第三部分，作者嘗試將各種理論角度綜合在一起，尤其是借鑒了一些語(yǔ)言學(xué)領(lǐng)域的研究成果，從不能角度對(duì)同一部作品進(jìn)行深入分析。
